It’s Time to Leave the Results to God (Why Your DIY Approach To Life is Exhausting You)

Does it feel like the weight of the world falls on your shoulders? Instead of stressing, leave the results to God and watch the outcome bloom.

While watching the latest Jurassic Park movie with our daughter, we saw the humans try to safely escape an island filled with the franchise’s latest genetically modified dinosaurs.

As we watched, I wondered what it would be like as an actor to have to react to invisible computer-generated imagery that would be edited in later.

The actor doesn’t know exactly how the dinosaur will look, how the scene will be edited or the order of his part in the movie.  He simply has to trust the director’s guidance as the one who sees the big picture and how his role fits in.

I Corinthians 3:6-9 says, “I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.  The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor.  For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.”

As it says, the one who plants and the one who waters play a small role, but the most significant part is God’s, as He is the actual one in charge of the seed’s growth.

Just as an actor plays his or her role in a movie, we each have our individual part to play in God’s plan.  But God is the director, producer and editor of our stories. He perfectly orchestrates our role and can see the ending even when we don’t.

As actors in God’s plans, our role is to play our part He gives us but also to have faith to know that God will do the heavy lifting. He’s the one who has full control, and we can rest in knowing that we can trust Him with our lives.

Sometimes I try to play the director in my own life.

But that’s not my job.  Only God can fulfill that role.

In my life, I see so many areas I need to work on, ways I see I need to change, especially in the area of shame and remembering who I am in Christ.

I get frustrated with myself when I don’t see enough progress in this area.

But how comforting it is to know that He is the author of change.  And when I pray to Him for help, He is faithful to work behind the scenes in changing me.

I’m not saying we don’t have a role in God’s plans as we are to be obedient to what He calls us each to do.

God is the one meant to do the heavy lifting in your life. When we try to control circumstances that are not ours to control, we miss out on the blessing of seeing His outcomes bloom and come to fruition.

The Temptation to Perform for the Audience

As Christians, we are constantly faced with the temptation to please the world.  Unfortunately, this audience is fickle and is easily blown and tossed by the wind.  The world will always have a critique, no matter how well you perform.

For our Jurassic Park example, the audience probably thinks the dinosaurs aren’t creative enough and that the franchise is running out of ideas.  (In this instance, the audience may be right, but I digress…)

As a blogger, it’s so tempting to do things just because another blogger is.  In those times, I try my best to remember that pleasing the world is not my job.  My job is to write what God tells to and leave the results to Him.

How to Leave the Results to God

At the end of the day, your job is to scatter the seed.  Play your part and let God control what blooms.

The outcome is God’s job. Obedience is yours.

Maybe you have a friend who is struggling. Don’t stop praying because you don’t see results immediately. Trust Him, and you will see His results at the perfect time.

How freeing it is to know that our lives don’t depend wholly on us. We can rest in knowing that God is the director, producer, and editor of our lives.

Your job is to scatter the seed.  Let God take care of what blooms.

When it’s finally time for an actor to see the premiere, he is just as surprised by the movie as the rest of the audience.  Now he can see how his supporting role played a part in the rest of the movie.  He can finally see the big picture and how the director orchestrated each scene perfectly.

In the same way, your Heavenly Father is orchestrating your life according to His perfect will.  You can’t see how everything will come together just yet. But when it does, you will be amazed at how God used your circumstances for good.
